It really, really wasn't his place to go telling her what to do with her personal life, and the sense of intimacy that had been created by her telling him her story didn't entitle him to give her unwanted advice. That he'd done just that was...well, silently he was willing to admit that it was because he was already crushing on Ruby, and whether or not he had any chance with her he still wanted her to be happier than she seemed. "All right," he said easily. "I'll stop." The for now was a silent rider but hung there between them. Instead he focused on the rest of what she'd said. "Ruby, I'm not a stupid guy. I may not be a genius, and I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a damned thing about this world except for what you've told me today. But I'm not a kid, either. I haven't lived in this world, but I've lived on the fringes of society for years, I'm not quite the wide-eyed sucker you seem to think I am." A swallow of beer, both because beer is delicious and to give himself a second to make sure that what he was saying was all of it true, that he wasn't overstating things to impress her or anything stupid like that. "I made a choice a long time ago to live a life I didn't have to be ashamed of. Not saying I have to solve childhood hunger or bring peace to the middle east, but I don't want to get to a point in my life where I look back and hate myself for the choices I made. And yeah, that sets me up to get hurt sometimes. But I'd rather that than be so hard that I don't help out when I'm needed." How could she really get her point across to someone so naive, well she knew one way but didn’t feel up to the task of researching a job then finding a hunter (since Sam going with her was out of the question) who would accompany them on the job and then killing something hideous in front of him. Something like that might drive the point home, might, but for now she conceded the point, not picking it back up. She reached out for her beer, holding the cold glass between her hands and looking into it as if it held all the answers. He was right, her life was shit right now, and the sad thing is what was keeping her from changing it was fear of what she’d been given, fear of being human with what she saw as all the weakness and vulnerability that came with that. As a demon she had confidence and ego because really she was the best of the best but now she was just another human to mix in with possible souls for heaven and hell to fight over. Part of her, the one that always pushed her to survive, wanted her to seek out her old profession, find magical tomes and begin what she was best at, to learn how to hunt. It was if though every thought for herself was tainted with guilt for what she had done in her past and that made it feel impossible to move forward. “Today is so not turning out like I had planned for it to.” She brought the beer up to her lips, taking a sip of it as something gnawed at the back of her mind. There was one person in the world who had a chance of patching Sam up, if she hadn’t the skills anymore. Maybe it was time for her to go hunting Dean Winchester, take a chance that he would hear her out first, and then tell him Sammy needed him desperately. "It really isn't. You want to table this conversation and go on that Wal-Mart run? Maybe try for running around doing stupid tourist shit tomorrow?" Which would not count as a date, if she agreed. He made himself be very clear on that in his own mind. "Besides," and now the smile got wider, brighter, "if we stay here any longer I might try to order another plate of those battered sausages, and it would be kind of a shame for you to get back to earth and all human-ified again only to immediately keel over from cholesterol poisoning." It was time for a break from the heavy mood and painful topics. Time to just live their lives again, go to Wal-Mart, buy some deodorant. These conversations would happen again at some point, at least they would if Christopher got his way in things, but it was time to let them both withdraw to their seperate emotional corners and process for a while, and Christopher was perfectly willing to play the clown to give the excuse for letting that happen. As he asked her to go out with him tomorrow to do ‘stupid tourist stuff’ a smile caressed her lips, not forced but not totally genuine, something tinged with an emotion she didn’t even have the capacity to put her finger on at the time, confusion was there but so was a ting of hope along with regret. “Are you asking me out on a date?” Honestly she was half serious about the question and not sure about if she wanted the answer to be yes or no. With either came…issues. If he said yes it was a date she’d be questioning if she should go with him, if Sam would mind, her reasoning behind saying yes (because it would be a yes). If he said no then she’d feel like perhaps this inkling of an attraction she felt toward him was just one sided and her emotional radar might be off. Yea, life was better when it was less complex. “Can’t have either of us risking our hearts now can we?” She used that double meaning statement to perhaps prod a little at him, she knew he might pick up on the meaning behind it as she rose to leave, the cholesterol statement allowing her the ability to toss that question out there without having to commit to asking it outright, if he liked her, if he minded if she liked him, if he knew how complicated this all could be, if Sam came around was he willing to step aside…was she even allowed to ask that? Yea, she needed back in her room badly, coming out of it might prove to be a mistake. LOCATION: NYNY Casino, Vegas MUSIC: Hey Salior by Detroit Cobras OUTFIT: I got a hat! NOTES: Confounded ex-demon

"I'm willing to risk if you are. Yeah, I'm asking you out on a date." She could say no still, and really how bad was that? It wasn't fun or anything to be rejected, but he could live with it. And really, if she was going to shoot him down, better now than later, when he'd had time to build things up in his head. But just because he was prepared to be rejected didn't mean he wasn't going to give things his best shot. So he gave Ruby his best smile and leaned forward on his elbows. "We'll go out and watch the pirates and the fountains, eat cheap prime rib, go out and see a show maybe. Or go dancing. Or both." A little shrug. "You wouldn't think a place this big could get to feel claustrophobic, but it does. Let's go out and blow some dust off? It's well past time." While initially the question of the date was hers now she found herself oddly nervous, no other man had shown any interest in her since she’d been with Sam and she had written her personality around him. There was also the fact that a strong part of her didn’t want to play adaptation for Christopher, just be who she honestly was, if she could dig out that woman from the tangled and messed up thing she’d become. Praying she wasn’t making the wrong choice she nodded to him. “Okay then, I’ll teach you all about the world you moved into thanks to Cas, you show me what a human world has to offer.” It was an acceptance of a date but not totally committing to romance, she felt it best that way, who knew what the future held.
