She couldn’t help a small bit of color rising to her cheeks as his lips touched the inside of her wrist, no longer could she simply put on a show with him, not able to hide from him because she had this gut feeling he’d somehow know the difference now. What she feared was that he’d expect honesty from her, no matter the subject, and she couldn’t always guarantee his feelings like she would want to. Following his lead to the parking lot she settled into the relative comfort of the passenger’s seat, idly thinking of fiddling with the radio as he punched in information to the GPS. She then remembered they really hadn’t had the conversation about musical tastes and she didn’t feel like taking over the dial that quickly would be something warranted, besides he might want to talk…. Then he went and asked a question she had feared he might, her plans. She had begun to turn to look to him but at the question she looked away, turning to look outside the SUV’s window at the lights as they passed by them, trying to come up with something to say that might be truth enough but soften the blow. As much affection as she held for him there was someone else she had made promises to, someone who couldn’t be reached right now, someone she was bound to by a sense of guilt. “Christopher, there is what I want to do, what I should do, and what I am supposed to do all warring with each other in that question. I want to look at you and ask you to just leave all this behind, take me with you on your boat and show me your world. What I should do is wait for Sam to wake up…if he wakes up, and tell him about you, about how I want to help you, and ask him if we could. What I am supposed to do is what Sam wants me to, stay by his side no matter what. I’m sorry if it’s not what you want to hear but like I said before, angels are assholes and there might be some unwritten rule I don’t know about that says if I leave Sam that Azrael gets to come collect me back to….well to hell. Christopher, trust me when I say, that’s something I wish on no one no matter what they have done and I can’t go through that again. Also…you saw Sam, hell did that to him, I did that to him…because of what I did, because he trusted me and followed my lead and was forced to go to hell to…” She stopped there, her hand coming up to touch the window as the lights danced across it wishing that things could be easier for his sake. Hell if she could she’d change herself for him as she would have done for Sam but again there was that gut feeling that Christopher would know the difference in her, sense it, and be disappointed that he wasn’t getting something genuine. Unlike the dancing lights outside the car Christopher wasn’t someone who was just eye candy, he was a living, breathing, man who seemed like he was offering her a chance at some sort of happiness in the midst of all the horrors that surrounded them and she wanted to take it. If Sam wasn’t an issue she would too. LOCATION: NYNY Casino, Vegas MUSIC: Hang On by Seether OUTFIT: Ninja!! NOTES: andddd back to this problem again….

"I still don't understand that." He was struggling to be calm and fair about it, and that was clear in his voice. "I don't get who said that you 'belonged' to Sam, I don't get why he agreed to it when it sounds so outside his character from what people tell me about him. I don't get why a rule as important as 'if you get more than ten miles from Sam Winchester you get sucked down into Hell' would be unwritten. None of it makes sense. Which," a sort of sigh, "doesn't mean I don't believe you. Just that I don't get it. But you have a lot more experience than I do with this stuff, I'm sure your judgment is better than mine." "I want you to come with me, away from the caravan, I don't even care where as long as it's away. I want it because I just want you," any hesitation he might have had about admitting that were gone with the kiss in the elevator, Christopher wasn't afraid to be honest about his heart. "But I also want it because I'm serious about thinking that you and Sam are toxic to one another. I can understand not leaving while he's down for the count. But he's got family here, friends, people practically kicking one another in the shins for the chance to take care of him. I don't see why you being forced to do it out of guilt and history is better for him than his Dad and brother and whoever else." They were slowed down, a snarl of traffic that let him turn and look squarely at Ruby in the passenger's seat. "Stay till he's awake and at least rational enough to talk or whatever. And then have a talk with him, find out whether he wants you leasheds to him. And if he'll let you go? Let's go. Fuck what the angels think either of us are good for, this isn't where I belong. They're real nice kids, and they've been good to me, everybody on their little Magical Mystery Tour has been, but I don't belong with this group and neither do you. So let's just go, and find where we actually do belong. Even if it turns out that the answer to that is 'not together', which obviously I'm hoping won't be the case, but even then I just...I feel like we're both of us roped in to somebody else's train, and that seems wrong to me. Very wrong." Location: NYNY Casino, Las Vegas NV Outfit: A dark gray long-sleeved tee and jeans. Music: Greensleeves - Blackmore's Night Notes: Not always the most eloquent, but entirely sincere.

So much history between her and Sam, so many complications, all that crap she was hanging onto out of some sense of atonement, it’s what made her tread lightly around him and stay near him. Part of her, if she was honest with herself, was waiting for him to do what he said he would do the first night she came back to him and come to his senses and kill her, he deserved that revenge didn’t he? “Before you totally commit to all that Christopher I need to fill in some huge blanks in the whole I have a lot to answer for story. The fact is that you are throwing in with what used to be the most infamous demons in the whole world, one of the most hated. Two years of yanking his chain, taking advantage of his emotions, playing him like a violin to do what I wanted him to do is a lot to explain and you only got a minor cliff notes version. If you want to hear the full novel of it I’ll tell you I’m just afraid of what you’ll think of me afterwards. It didn’t start out with me caring about Sam enough to question my nature, it started out as me wanting to help Lilith bring about the end of the world.” Sighing softly she rose her dark eyes again, looking over at him, shame was in them along with regret and some mixture of pain. Her mind was already playing her through those first days as the blonde vessel, remembering how the whole damned dance with Sam started. She didn’t want to relive any of that but she also knew that Christopher deserved the whole truth if she even had an inking of running away with him. “Speaking of brothers, rumor has it that Dean is in town, he’ll probably come hunting me soon enough so this might all be a moot point. As much of an idiot as he is he’s good at what he does, which is to say hunting down what he wants to kill and then killing it. Unless he’s really gone off the reservation, which hey he isn’t by Sam’s side like he’s sewn to him so he might have, then he’s going to find out about me and probably make a beeline strait for me.” Reaching a hand over she placed it on Christopher’s leg, aware how intimate the gesture might be taken as but she honestly needed the contact with him and to remind herself that despite what and who she was he was there next to her. "I don't understand what's between you two. You could recite verbatim every word that ever passed between you and I still wouldn't understand it because I didn't live it." Up and up, spiraling toward the top levels in search of a parking spot wide enough to take the SUV. "What I do know? That things are different now. That you're not a demon any more. That the history is painful, but it's also history and that none of you are going go actually start healing from it until you stop living in the middle of it." He finally found a parking spot and pulled in, cut off the engine but didn't pop the door yet. Instead he turned toward Ruby, caught her hand and tried to get her to look at him. "If you want to tell me about all of it, I'll listen. Because it's important to you, and because I want to know about you. And maybe because you need to say it all before you're going to believe that it won't make me shy off." A gentle squeeze at her fingers. "Ruby, you were reborn. Literally, you were recreated out of the earth and water and air and fire. You were gone, well more than gone, and then brought to life by an archangel and sent into the world made new and washed clean. And yes, I think you need to make things right with Sam and with anyone else you feel like you've wronged. But I don't think you need to do that by binding yourself into emotional slavery. I think all that's going to do is lock you into the same behaviors and the same sick cycles of need and blame and promises and disappointments that happened the last time around." Luck for her never worked like that, she’d always made her own luck, so there was a feeling of shock at what he was saying and doing. She hadn’t gone looking for him and even when she first met him she had seen him more as a means to an end, never in her wildest dreams had she imagined she’d have simply bonded with him like she had. “The night Azreal brought me back Sam said he’d take me in, take responsibility for me, be part of my redemption. She told him to make sure I wasn’t slipping into my old ways and that she’d be checking in on us, of course you know angels…haven’t seen her since. That night I promised Sam I’d stay, always, never leave. He once was seeking his own death, when he lost Dean and I helped him step back from that cliff. He said I saved his life and if I could just get one moment, just catch my breath between crises, I might be able to do the same thing again. He’s lost Dean again and it’s worse….” She stopped herself, lowering her eyes; part of her had realized that she had become in a way a replacement for Sam’s big brother. Ruby also knew she was no where near good enough to take Dean’s place, no matter how she felt about the annoying asshole he always had Sam’s back and Sam had his, this separation was killing Sam and she knew it. “It’s all a moot point right now, look can we just go have some fun, forget ourselves for a few hours? No demons, no hunters, no angels?” Reaching back she pulled out the hunting knife she now carried on her, a replacement blade unequal to the one she once carried but that was Sam’s now, tucking it into the glove box of the SUV. She missed her knife, having taken it to defend herself before but she wouldn’t remove it from him permanently without Sam’s okay, feeling a bit like that knife. She’d need his okay as well to remove herself from him and she feared a yes or no to that question. “Quick, kiss me again Christopher and then let’s go see this horrid history and….maybe grab some bottles and drive out to the desert?” Yea just them alone with wide open spaces sounded like a little piece of heaven to her. He was a patient man, at least in some aspects of life, and this was important enough to make a long-term project. So he leaned over and cupped his hand around the back of her neck, kissed her with all the calm, confident devotion of his nature. Christopher wasn't a flighty man, not when it mattered. For all his driftless lifestyle one of the reasons he didn't have a lot of close friends was because when he cared about somebody that was permanent. He didn't let go of the people he loved, and so he didn't much go in for the serial semi-monogamy that was typical for his friends. One night stands were fun and all, but when he got attached he stayed that way. And maybe he hadn't planned to attach to Ruby, but it had happened and he wasn't going to pretend it wasn't real. He slid his fingers up the back of his neck and into her hair, his thumb stroking along her jaw and his other hand on her knee. When that finally had to break he pressed his forehead against hers for a moment. "History. Beer. Tequila in the desert." And he made himself because if he didn't right then he wasn't going to. Christopher got his arm around Ruby's waist as they headed into the casino, mostly for the fun of it but also because it was just prudent, easy to get lost in these places. The stadium was hell and gone across the complex from the parking lot, of course, but within a few minutes they had plastic tankards of beer and were wandering the courtyard looking at the cheap souvenirs and waiting for their seating group to be called. He had his hand slipping up and down Ruby's back as they considered a display of cheap imitation swords and other medieval/fantasy weaponry. "Suddenly I'm kind of sad we didn't bring John along. The sneer would be worth the price of admission." Location: NYNY Casino, Las Vegas NV Outfit: A dark gray long-sleeved tee and jeans. Music: Greensleeves - Blackmore's Night Notes: Swag cracks me up.

Nevertheless she found herself blissfully swept off her feet, a position she was beginning to enjoy. As they stood waiting for the seating to open up she heard Christopher and then pictured John’s face and actually laughed. “Yea, if sneers could kill right? By the way the dark ages or what ever they are trying to recreate here, they smelled worst, beer here is better too.” Holding up her cheesy plastic tankard she took a sip, using her tongue to lick away the small amount of foam left over. Her eyes took in the horrid excuse for toy weapons thinking that any child she knew would be better served with something real, this world to dangerous for anything less. As they were shuffled in with the group and shown to seats her nose filled with a familiar smell, wrinkling up at it. Ah horses and the wonderful items left by horses, now things were beginning to smell more like history. Now add in unwashed masses, illness, and other vile odors and they had a chance of getting it right. After a few moments more she simply laid her head on his shoulder, putting her beer down so she could place her hand on his knee, acts of affection with him becoming so easy she had to think about them less and less. After the show was over she stayed close to Christopher, letting most of the other people file out as she kept her hand in his. She moved as if to not let anyone else touch her, not wanting anyone else in her personal space right now. “So did you want to go straight to the desert with tequila or the seedy bar for some pool?” LOCATION: NYNY Casino, Vegas MUSIC: Hang On by Seether OUTFIT: Ninja!! The whole thing was tacky and cheesy and at least forty minute too long but Christopher enjoyed the hell out of it with the help of lots of beer and Ruby sitting next to him in the dark. Lingering a while as most the crowd filtered out let Christopher wait out the last of the beer in his system so that he felt okay saying, "Let's just head out to the middle of nowhere? I don't feel like being around a bunch of people for a while." There always seemed to be a million people around at New York New York, and while he'd definitely been struggling with that alone-in-a-crowd thing lately, there was also a distinct lack of privacy. He shared a room, he borrowed vehicles, he helped out in the theater and got swept up in the crowd of roadies, hunters, and random strays who'd already pegged him as a willing hand in almost any task. Right now he just wanted to be with Ruby, with nobody watching, nobody interrupting, nobody else to worry about other than getting the truck back by dawn. And okay, some of that was a hope that they could stretch out somewhere and explore the level that happened past kissing, but most of it was just wanting to be with her, to be able to put their attention on one another wholly without looking over their shoulder for the next crisis (great or small). So as they headed out to the parking lot he asked, "What's your bottle of choice? Tequila is traditional, but I'm open to other options. Alec got me hooked on the honey bourbons that are coming out right now, it shouldn't make such a difference in the taste but it really does. Dangerous stuff." Whiskey strait used to be what I’d choose and of course lately it’s been whatever bottle has been not empty in Sam’s room. Anything you get I am sure will be fine.” Admitting out loud that she’d been trying to numb herself when she could with what it seemed every hunter out there did, with alcohol. The truth was that she probably would have drank a liquor store if it helped her function more normally. She knew that being at least forty proof at all times seemed to help Dean deal with stuff, the creepy little stalker made notes of simple facts like that along with the more in depth ones for use later. Moving past cars they came up on the SUV and she lingered behind it a moment longer, not wanting to remove her hand from his. Honestly she would be hard pressed to remember when the last time she had felt so genially relaxed was and just herself in public. Moments like these simply did not happen to Ruby or if they did they were only seconds worth before something horrible happened and she had to move onto the next crisis. No plotting going on in her mind save what was going to happen once they were in the desert, idly wondering if the back seat of the SUV folded down and how fast between getting into the desert and getting undressed in the desert would be prudent. Part of her wanted to say screw it and find some random cheap hotel room but the lure of the darkness and all the stars above her was too great, she craved great wide open spaces and not rooms where you have to flip on the lights to watch the roaches scatter. Finally she tore her hand away from him and got into the car, turning to sit on her hip so she could fully watch him, her hand reaching over to brush against his throat softly almost right after he climbed in. It was set in her mind what was going to happen tonight, well at least if he wanted it to, which unless she was way off about his actions he wanted as well. Tomorrow and the days after that would sort themselves out but just for one night she wanted something for herself. LOCATION: NYNY Casino, Vegas MUSIC: Hang On by Seether OUTFIT: Ninja!! They dumped the bags into the backseat and took off due east on 147 toward Lake Mead State Park, which the all-night checker at the drug store had assured them was a good place to get away from the city's lights. It was only about twelve miles to the park and they rode in comfortable silence for a while before Christopher asked, "So making the assumption, which I know is far from a sure thing right now, that you and Sam decide you can go your separate ways, what would you like to do with yourself? Christopher had this weird effect on her it seemed, making her forget herself, making her giddy, she might even go as far to say making her stupidly careless and deep down she knew they wouldn’t be able to get away with the mistake of not paying much attention to their surroundings for much longer. Until then though she was happy to just live in this moment with him, forgetting about the past and the future and just try to be content. Then he asked her about her plans, something she’d been trying since she first spoke to him to figure out. She was at her own crossroads with so many choices laying before her, so many more than she had ever had in her entire life. Truth be told there was a certain comfort in how she had lived up till now, with other’s telling her what she was to do and all she had to do was fill in the how part of it. Then of course most of her plans came with plans and plans about those, backup after backup. “Is it sad to say I hadn’t really thought about it yet? I’m not really a hunter per say, which is to mean I don’t go looking for things to kill but if they show up on my doorstep, or if Sam takes me with him I can handle myself. If I go my own way there was this guy I know who kinda has this thing going about finding out why a certain trenchy featherbrain dropped him in the middle of this horror show. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t as a Ruby distraction so I think I’d start there. I’m done with revenge really. Maybe see if those old skills my mother once taught me are still somewhere in me….maybe something else. I used to have every movement I was going to make mapped out in my mind but now I react to what happens around me. It’s annoying.” Looking out the windshield a moment she let her eyes trail up to the dark sky above, loving how the desert night sky sparkled with the stars so perfectly, hardly able to contain herself again with thoughts of what was going to happen when the car finally came to a stop. “How much further do we have to go?” LOCATION: NYNY Casino, Vegas MUSIC: Hang On by Seether OUTFIT: Ninja!! "I'm the last person to see anything wrong with drifting as the wind takes you. Though I'll admit, I've got some strong curiosity about why a Columbo-lookin' angel gives a damn about m, and it'd be nice to have a semi-cranky ex-demon at my side as I figured it out. Never been much of one for planning out every move, though." A few minutes of driving and they were inside the park proper and had pulled off into an empty stretch of nothing where they had desert stretching out on three sides of them and only a twinkle of distant lights on the fourth to indicate that they were barely outside the limits of Sin City. Christopher spread out the blanket for them to lay out on, cracked the first bottle of the deceptively smooth honey-sweetened bourbon and took a swallow before passing it to Ruby and sitting down on the squishy-soft blanket. "God, this is the stuff." He dropped flat on his back and smiled up at Ruby, a long stretch that pulled some of the tension out of his back and shoulders. "I'm way more used to being in the middle of nowhere with nobody but myself and maybe one mate than being surrounded by people all the time. Crowds are fun for a while, but I'm a fan of a select few people around." Speaking of which, as soon as Ruby joined him on the blanket Christopher rolled toward her onto his side and smiled at her, leaned in to kiss her nice and slow and exploratory, because it had been hours since he got to do that, and with the extra bonus of being able to run his hand down over the leg of her jeans both because he just wanted to touch her leg and to test how she would feel about that kind of contact right now. She set them aside and took the bottle from him as lay out next to him, taking first one swallow, then a few more, letting the warmth of the liquid move down her throat and into her chest. She had just turned her head to face him as he caught her up in a kiss; she almost dropped the bottle but was able to keep enough of her senses to place it down beside her as she softly moved her hips against his touch, warm and inviting him to not stop as she reached up to unzip his hoodie. She wanted less layers between herself and his hands now, having already decided that if he wanted her she would be willing tonight to go that far with him and worry about tomorrow when the dawn came. Her lips lingering against his a moment more she moved her head to bring them up to his ear, kissing the lobe a moment before softly whispering an answer to his unasked question. “Yes Christopher…yes and please?” LOCATION: NYNY Casino, Vegas MUSIC: Hang On by Seether OUTFIT: Ninja!!
