Christopher had been patient for days, but when Ruby hadn't emerged on the fourth day after Sam Winchester's collapse, he had to act. He'd talked to Bishop, then joined Norah when the singer went down next to sit with Sam. As Norah let herself into the quiet, dim hotel room, Christopher followed right along behind her and made a beeline toward Ruby, holding out one of his hoodies to her and informing her in a firm (but quiet, Sam was still asleep, or whatever that was) voice, "We're going out. You and me, right now, and we're not coming back until we've done something stupid." "In support of which, I've booked us two tickets for the 'Tournament of Kings' at Excalibur. We'll drink beer and eat overcooked chicken and watch disappointed actors pretend to be Arthur and Mordred. I hear there's jousting, and we can get drunk on overpriced beer and laugh at the bad history." He shook the hoodie at her, trying for stern but he couldn't help the smile. "C'mon, you know you want to be my wench for a night. Norah's here, the doc's here, his father's coming in later. He's fine, but if you don't breathe some fresh air soon you might wilt." In the few stolen moments she had taken with him she already had seen how his laid back nature coupled with this radiance he seemed to just have flowing from him could make her feel hopeful without him even trying. She had equated the dazzling lights she watched from her room window with him now, how they sparkled against the night sky and gave things this magical quality, sort of how his eyes lit up as he became passionate about things when he spoke. There was an inner brilliance to the man that drew Ruby to him and she wanted nothing more than to take his hoodie, slip her hand into his and let him lead her away from not only this room but her life as she had come to know it. No….he’d said he wasn’t there to save her once before and she needed to remember that, there was nothing to save her from though was there? She deserved every moment of what she was dealing with and needed to just face it and keep moving through it. "I solemnly swear to you that if Sam wakes up in the next four hours I will drag multiple witnesses in front of him to attest that you hovered over him without ceasing until you were forced away, and that you missing his exciting performance of, at a guess, rolling over and groaning and then everybody getting kicked out of the room except his father and the doctor for one to three hours, was all my fault and only at my urging." Again he offered the hoodie. "He'll be fine, Ruby. Truly. And making yourself sick hovering in here when there are other people just as devoted isn't going to help him any. If anything, it'll just make it harder on him when he does wake up if you're all rundown and ill instead of being in good shape and able to help him recover." A quick, coaxing smile. Her eyes trailed over to Sam and without moving them from the sleeping giant she reached out and took the offered hoodie, leaving her leather coat behind as she rose to her feet and tugged it on. “Smart ass.” Apparently though the smart ass approach worked, or perhaps it was his logic, either way she tore her eyes from Sam and moved to the door without another word, fighting the instinct to stay in that quiet and depressing room. She hesitated a moment before moving through the door into the hallway beyond it and leaning up against the wall, looking up a moment to take a deep breath, finding the air outside the room lighter and easier to take in. As she stood there she felt her whole body relax more, guilt telling her she shouldn’t be but unable to help it. “Are you sure you aren’t a demon sent to tempt me back to my old ways Christopher? If you are then I have to say you’re doing a good job of it.” Half teasing but the complement was there too, she’d played the cat and mouse game enough to know someone good at it. She knew he was interested, and if she pulled away he wouldn't squawk, but he'd missed her the last few days and he liked the sense of holding on to her, the closeness. As they headed for the elevator Christopher could feel the tension continuing to drop off of her, the way she seemed to be coming back alive, remembering who she was instead of whatever thing she thought she was supposed to be for the sake of a man too far gone to care. The thought had him wanting to pull her tighter against his side, but he compromised by giving her upper arm a friendly squeeze and saying, "I personally think I'm good for you. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, I've got the keys to Other Bob and I finally convinced the little gay angel dude to take me back to the Sredni Vashtar to pick up my stuff, so I actually have my own ATM card. He was young, idealistic, and those features attracted her and made her want this night to last forever. Vegas and everything else could just fade away and she’d be happy just in his company and talking to him. She’d never met someone before that made her feel like opening up to, someone who didn’t earn her gut reaction of sharp insults and closed ended answers. She knew that many times she was at odds with the angel because she supported Sam in what he wanted which would go against what Dean wanted, it was like each brother had their own guardian befitting who their vessel was. Of course where he was concerned she simply enjoyed the proximity of him to her, those blue eyes of his doing their number to make her heart beat speed up just a little bit. “Cas is and probably will always be a pain like that and with Sam out of commission short of calling Dean and dodging bullets long enough to see if he’ll call the trench coat himself I think we might have to go the summoning way if we want a direct answer. Still willing to but maybe we could hold off on that till after the beer and bad history? I learned pool from my grandfather in his wood-paneled study in a Hollywood McMansion, but I mastered it in a pool hall in Guadalajara, Mexico that smelled like cigar smoke and pot and spoiled beer playing with guys who had names like 'Cholo' and 'Guape'." Christopher had been a happy drifter his entire adult life, not quite a criminal but only because he never had to make the decision about whether he would be willing to hurt somebody to survive. Christopher was only vaguely aware of what was coming out of his mouth at this point, he was sort of caught up in staring at Ruby. Specifically at her mouth, which was narrow and had almost no curve at all to it, but which was somehow immensely feminine and which drew him almost more than he could resist. So he stopped resisting. Worst that could happen was she'd pull away and tell him he was reading it all wrong, right? And if that happened, well, it would suck severely but at least he'd know. And at least he'd have managed the once. So he bent his head and kissed her, making sure she could see it coming but not particularly hesitant about what he was doing. Christopher wasn't afraid, he was almost never afraid, that might have been his defining characteristic. And that came through even in how he kissed, in the firm and confident press of his mouth against hers and the slow slide of his hands up her back because maybe this was the only shot he'd ever get at this but if it was he would be damned sure to enjoy it while it lasted. Maybe this time would truly be different, maybe she could experience something normal, well as normal as anyone that lived in the world her and Christopher lived in. Okay so it was a kiss in an elevator but comparatively over her rather long lifespan it was the sweetest kiss she’d ever had the luck of receiving. Moving so she was up against him her eyes fluttered close, her body practically melting into his. She wanted to break it and whisper “your room” to him but she also didn’t want to ruin the plans he obviously had made for them, adoring that he had planned something for them both. As they reached the bottom she felt the elevator stop, breaking the kiss and looking up into his eyes, taking the moments before the doors opened to place a hand to his chest and softly whisper to him. “I’ve kinda been waiting for you to do that.” Part of her glad she had read his actions right, a confirmation in her mind that she hadn’t lost her touch totally, but also that he did honestly care past what she could do for him. He was a good looking guy who was probably able to find girls left and right so unless he was just a sucker for a hard luck case he genuinely had chosen her out of the myriad of women she was sure would toss themselves at him. That did enough to boost her self-esteem, tell her she was worth something more than that broken thing that followed Sam around like a puppy or a guard dog, ready to bite anything that dared harm him. Inside her the sensual woman she was came awake in his arms, the one that she might have thought long dead. In fact, in that first half-giddy moment he would have been happy to ride up and down in this elevator for the rest of their lives, just so long as he could keep kissing Ruby, keep feeling the compact curves of her body under his hands and tasting the toothpaste and coffee on her lips. But he supposed that wasn't really rational, and so he finally gave in and stepped off the elevator, though he didn't let go of her for a second, and as soon as they were away from the bank of elevators he sat down on a handy bench in the lobby and drew her right along with him. A soft smile as he trailed a fingertip down the side of her throat and admitted, "I've kinda been waiting for me to do that too. Pretty much since the minute you admitted you wanted to ride the roller coaster instead of going to Wal Mart." Wow, he was so romantic. But it was true. "And I'd be incredibly disappointed if you didn't. Even more than I would have been five minutes ago." Was he babbling? He was babbling. He didn't care, she was beautiful fascinating and he got to kiss her if he wanted to and what was better than that? Not a goddamned thing. Rarer still was her show of joy in the face of other’s around them, she always feared that people would use her own feelings, those she cared about, against her so she was not one for public displays such as the one she was allowing Christopher to lavish upon her. The thing was that in this moment she didn’t care about God or the Devil, Angels or Demons, anything that the world they moved in was a threat, he was there with her and she just wanted this simply joy of feeling like a woman for the first time in over six hundred years. “Wal Mart has nothing on this roller coaster.” Okay, so she had a little ironic romantic streak to her too, that smile on her lips genuine and real, no hiding behind it but bore for all who passed by them to see. Her hand curled up onto his upper arm, fingers softly brushing down it as she felt the definition of muscle there, wondering idly what the rest of his chest looked like without that shirt, perhaps even eager to find out. Still she was fighting with the urge of asking him to just forgo the bad history and take her back to his room; pizza delivery would suit her just fine as long as neither of them got much sleep that night. The other problem was she feared what would come the next morning, would this be just thanks for the fun and him going his own way? She doubted it but that also brought up all new complications, she belonged to Sam and no matter what Christopher had said to her she feared if she went against Sam’s wishes, if he didn’t want her with Christopher, that he’d find a way to call that Arch Angel back and off to hell again with her. He lifted her hand and turne it in his grip, pressed a long kiss to the fine smooth skin of her inner wrist. Christopher loved these little spots on a woman's body that were like secrets, so sensitive and fragile but right out in the open for anyone to see, if only they'd pay enough attention. The inner wrist, the soft fragrant skin of the back of the neck right below the hairline, the shallow dip of the collarbone at the base of a woman's throat. They drew him unerringly, tugged at him and got him wanting to explore every inch just to hear the reactions he might get. That one long kiss, his eyes warm and promising over the top of her hand, and then Christopher stood up and drew Ruby to her feet with him. "We'll go do all those things. And then figure out what's next from there." Not hard to guess that he was kinda hoping that 'what's next' would be bed. Also not hard to guess that if that weren't the case he would accept it cheerfully and without complaint. He got them headed out of the casino, finding the big black SUV in the lot and punching in the address for the Excalubur into the GPS because the Vegas street layout made his brain hurt.
