1.Father's Daughter
It was another day of being her father’s daughter. Sammael laid flat against the rooftop as she peeked over with mischievous bright gray eyes at the teenage couple below her. The two had ditched school, like she, and found themselves an empty alleyway. It wasn’t exactly the room they’d get recommended to find, but teens could hardly contain themselves. They’d have dropped all over each other in the classroom had the teacher been willing to allow it. The thing was, though, that this boy was a total dick, and Sammael hated dicks. She did tend to meddle in other people’s business for her own amusement, but that was different. She was called a troll, and trolls were hilarious if played right. Sammael had just the bloodline for that.
Her lips curled into a smirk as she scooted closer to the roof’s edge. This same idiot had been hitting on her earlier this week despite it being well-known he had a girlfriend. Sammael couldn’t help but toy with the boy’s mind, but his girlfriend hadn’t appreciated it. One little, playful kiss on the cheek ended up making her deal with a lot of complicated shit, and, like her mother, Sammael hated complicated issues. Kids were just no fun nowadays. So pretentious and with sticks up all their asses! So, in order to stop all those nasty “slut” rumors, Sammael decided to do the air-headed girlfriend a little favor.
“You look great, ladies! Why not move just a little more to the right so I can get a better shot?” Sammael cooed as she held her cell phone in plain sight, camera recording. “Your girlfriend is going to love this!”
The couple jerked, and the teenage male’s eyes grew wide with surprise, then rage.
“Sammael!” He yelled as she delicately dropped from the roof and landed in front of him. He lunged at her and snatched for the phone, “give me that, you bitch!”
“No can do, mon cher!” Sammael laughed and danced right under his arm and behind him. She glanced at the girl and waved the phone in her face. “Lovely tongue action there, girly, you must get around a lot, if you catch my drift.”
The indignant look on her face was enough to make Sammael’s smirk grow wider. She casually slipped the phone into her jacket pocket, avoided another grab by the boy, and jumped onto the opposite roof. It was time to bail. She gave an overdramatic bow.
“Au revoir! Lovely show, and I would call for an encore, but I’m thinking you’re going to have a lot of explaining to do when you get back to school.” She winked, “have fun~”
And just like that she was gone.

2.Sing the Anthem
Section I--
It was a beautiful day in the Izumi lands. Yue sat with her knees tucked underneath her on the deck as her half-sister, Sammael, sat behind her and tied flowers into her long, silky obsidian hair. Her sister couldn't stop cooing over how nice her hair felt when her own was just as beautiful. Yue always felt a small smile spread across her lips whenever Sammael went on her rants. It was funny to see such a mischievous girl whine about something as simple as hair. She was just like her father, yet took a feminine love of clothes, hair, and the shopping that came with it. Personally, Yue could go without any of that, but she liked having flowers in her hair.
"You're looking beautiful right now, Yue," Sammael grinned as she finished tying another little, white flower into her sister's long locks. "If it wouldn't be such a pain I'd totally grow my hair out as long as your's and mom's." She leaned back to inspect her handiwork and smirked, "are you going to show this to Seth?"
Yue blushed, "well, I'm sure he'll see it. I'm sure he'll love it..."
"I'm sure he will," Sammael nudged her, "when do you think he'll finally admits he loves you, hm?"
"Sammael!" Yue gasped and seemed to curl in on herself. "I'm sure he will whenever you finally decide to hook things together with Raphael!"
"W-what?" Sammael was taken aback. "What do you mean by that?"
Yue turned her head and gave her half-sister a puzzled look. "It seems to me like you have a thing for him. Do you?"
"No way!" Sammael waved her arms wildly in protest, "I'm not into the whole 'love' thing! I don't want anything to do with that."
"Oh..." Yue frowned, "I could've sworn..."
"Is someone talking about me?"
The voice caused both girls to jump. Sammael screamed 'Raphael' before spinning around to notice the boy standing there, hands in pockets, grinning goofily at them. His blue eyes sparkled with knowing.
"Now, what is it you two could possibly be gossping about?" Raphael asked as he tilted his head, "certainly not me?"
"U-um...um..." Sammael stuttered and blushed.
Yue gave a knowing smile as she stood and bowed to Raphael in greeting. "It's nice to hear you, Raph...I think I'll leave you and Sammy here alone for a while, huh?"
"What? What!? Yue! Yue, no!" Sammael screamed as she scrambled to cling for her half-sister's legs. Her face was as red as a tomato. "No! No! No! Yue! Yue! Yue!"
Section II ---
We can chase the dark together...if you go, then so will I...
"Seth? Seth!"
Yue sat on the bed, crouched over his shivering body as he coughed and hacked up blood. Her hand was delicately placed in his as she gave it an encouraging squeeze. The smell of the blood made her stomach twist; it didn't smell right. Her other hand gripped onto his shoulder as she kept him from rolling off the bed. The tears were dripping down her cheeks and onto the thin, white sheets. This was something that'd been going on for about a month now. She had always known that he'd a genetic illness, but, in all her years of training, she had never experienced it. Her mother was the only one who knew how to treat it, and that didn't make it any less painful on him. She hadn't heard him out of bed for the past week. It was hard to bear while also running around and caring for the patients. It was never expected that her own mentor would end up being her patient.
"Seth, it's going to be okay. Please, Seth, just breathe..." Yue whispered and nuzzled her head into the back of his shoulder as she let out a soft sob. Every time she feared that he was dying. The disease was at him from the inside. No matter how hard he tried to find a cure, and with her and her mother's help, there didn't seem to be a cure. "It's going to be okay...it's all going to be okay..."
Outside was a low rumble which made the cabin shake. Yue's body tensed as the door swung open and familiar footsteps stumbled in.
"Yue!" gasped a voice. It was her half-sister, Sammael.
Yue lifted her head and turned her head toward the voice of her half-sister. She could imagine a grief-stricken expression and her clothes tattered. "Sammael? What's going on?"
The steps urgently came closer and soon a hand firmly grabbed her arm and jerked. "You have to help us outside, Yue! We're being attacked." The voice paused for a moment, probably to inspect Seth on the bed. "...He's going to be okay, right?"
She didn't know that for sure. Still, Yue had a duty to keep everyone calm as the healer's apprentice. She nodded slowly and straightened her posture while wiping away at the tears. "Yes...he...he's just in a lot of pain right now." She imagined her sister's expression cringing.
"I can see that...his soul looks pretty...uh...nevermind."
That worried Yue. What did Sammael see that was hidden from her? While she could not see anything, Sammael could see deeper than almost anyone in the world. Yue curled closer to her beloved mentor and delicately ran her fingers through his hair. He was sweating...she thought about getting an ice pack to try and cool him. "What about outside, Sammael?"
"Right. Like I said, we're being attacked and we need you...will he be okay in here by himself? I mean, can't someone else stay with him...?"
"No! I...I mean...yes, someone could..."
"They need you, Yue..."
"I know..." Yue quieted and lowered her head. She was reluctant to leave him, but she knew if he had a stable mind that he'd expect her to go. The ones that needed her most were the most important. If it ever came down to it, then Seth would've taken care of the patients first. Still, that didn't stop her heart from aching at the thought of leaving his side at this dire time. She was scared that if she disappeared for just a second that he'd be gone when she came back.
A soft, reassuring hand rested on her shoulder--Sammael. Yue felt her squeeze and lifted her own hand to rest atop her's.
"I know it's hard to leave him right now. I love Seth, too, though, not as much as you do." Sammael paused again to look over at him. "But...you know what he'd do, and what he'd want you to do. There are people dying out there, Yue. It's all my fault, and I regret it...but...please, help them."
Yue slowly nodded and turned back to Seth. She could feel his body trembling underneath her in his restless sleep. Her fingers continued to run soothingly through his hair as she bent down and kissed her mentor on the cheek. "I'll be back..." she whispered before quickly standing and expertly walking to the medical supplies. The strong scent of herbs, rubbing alcohol, and other supplies were unmistakable. Everything gave off energy, and, in her mind's eye, Yue could take this energy to form an image in her head. It was the good thing about being a blind demon--one was never completely blinded. She snatched the bag filled with what she needed and turned to her sister. "Okay...I'm ready...let's go."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Outside was chaos. Yue could hear the sounds of battle, yet she could not tell who was winning. The Izumi were fierce fighters, but so was whoever attacked them. It didn't sound like the angels, which was a good thing. If the angels were attacking over Sammael, then their mother wouldn't hesitate to declare a war. Mother was extremely protective of Sammael. Yue focused on the mission at hand while pushing all other thoughts, including Seth, from her mind. She had not forgotten to put the healer's marking on, which should keep her safe from attack. Unless, of course, the attackers decided to be dishonorable. It wasn't uncommon. She had heard many stories from Seth where he had to tap into what little fighting skills they were taught to defend himself. He often worried for her because of her inability to actually see, but Yue could definitely hear, smell, and taste better than others. She didn't need sight to know this was a massacre.
It didn't take long for her to find her first patient, an Izumi with a broken arm, to begin with. Yue quickly went to setting it and putting it in a temporary wrap so she could move to others with more serious injuries. She could still feel the presence of Sammael close by. The sounds of battle were engulfing the entire area. Yue's skin began to prickle as it grew louder around her. The Izumi she was treating suddenly let out a warning yelp, but Yue had already heard it coming. She quickly stuffed her hand in a pouch and flung out a mythical dust. It hit target and the attacker screamed in agony as he stumbled away.
Sammael had witnessed the attack. Her bright gray eyes narrowed angrily. It was considered dishonorable to attack a Healer! They had all been taught since children to avoid them if seen. She was glad that Yue had managed to hold her own, though Sammael could see others approaching. Yue was going to struggle fighting so many of them. She was not about to let them kill her half-sister over wanting her.
"Stay away!" Sammael yelled as she hurried over toward her sister. Her wings sprouted from her back and her body took on a white glow as she jumped between the attackers and Yue. "I said stay back!"
She thrust her hand forward and felt it push through the first individual. The soul of the creature separated from the body as the white energy about her body diminished it. The body fell with a heavy, lifeless thud, which stopped the other attackers. Yue had stopped her treatment of the patient, probably feeling the powerful energy, and stared toward Sammael with her wide, light blue gaze. Sammael felt rage coming over her as she glared at the demons who'd stopped. She wanted to kill them; she wanted to kill them all!
Her teeth gritted together as she took a daring step toward them. It was funny...she'd never felt so strong...
"No. One. Touches.My.Sister!"
Sing the anthem of the angels, and say the last goodbye...
Section III---
The sounds of battle rattled him from his restless slumber. He felt like his stomach was on a roller coaster while his body was being roasted over a pit of fire. His body, lathered in sweat, shivered. At any given moment it could give out on him and lay his soul to eternal rest. The illness ran deeper this time than any other, but this had been expected. It was always worse with each passing appearance. If a cure was not found, then he suspected he only had 1,000 more years to live. If he was lucky, then he could manage 1,150 years at best.
The Healer rolled to the side of the bed and, predictably, vomited. A sickening green and black liquid mixed with his blood fell into a basket someone, his apprentice, presumably, had left out for him. His shaking, pale fingers ran through his dark wet hair. When his people needed him it didn't matter how sick he was. He was going to go to them. So, without any regard for what laid outside, the Healer crawled out of the bed. The Healer grasped the mattress tight until he was certain letting go wouldn't send him tumbling, then proceeded to the door. He was certain he still retained enough energy to use healing spells adequately without supplies. The supplies were mainly for his apprentice anyways.
As the Healer, Seth, stumbled out the door, he saw a heated war raging on. There were bodies, allies and enemy alike, scattered across the battlefield. His apprentice had to be in the fray somewhere doing the best she could. Seth was determined not to let her do this alone. He quickly made his way down the stairs; there was a lot of work to do.
The sickness was making his head spin, yet he had managed so far to pull countless in need into his cabin. Seth had still not caught sight of his apprentice, Yue, but he was confident that she was okay. Despite the girl being blind she was quite something. He would admit to having quite an amount of respect for her, and perhaps a little soft spot somewhere deep down. Seth wondered if he was beginning to develop feelings for her.
He had just exited the cabin when confronted by an enemy demon. Seth tilted his head, bemused. "I'm not a fighter. Please, let me move on! I have to tend to more patients."
"You're not going anywhere, Healer," the demon growled. "We're taking the place down!"
"What?" Seth's eyes stretched wide. "No! You can't do that! This is a Healer's cabin! There are injured, mine and your's alike, in there!"
"They can afford to be sacrificed," sneered the enemy. A smirk twisted on his lips. "They'll die heros as long as I take down your kind with them."
"I won't let you!" Seth's fangs suddenly bared. He let out a low growl as his eyes shifted to maroon and he stretched his arms out to shield the cabin. "There are sick people in there, my patients, and I will not let anyone harm them! Not even our own leader!"
"Oooh, so the sick Healer has some fight in him after all." The demon tilted its head, amused. "I can smell death on your breath, Izumi. If you don't move, then I'll gladly help you down that path."
Seth's eyes narrowed and he growled louder. He could feel adrenaline start to temporarily restore him. No one was going to hurt his patients, his apprentice, his home...no one. If he had to kill, then so be it. A Healer could give life just as much as a Healer could take life. He would fight for what he believed to be right, even if his own life was diminished along the way.
"Seth?" A soft voice squeaked behind him. Yue was standing in the doorway, light eyes wide as she held a basket of supplies at her side. She must've slipped into the building without him noticing and him slipped out without catching her attention. The shock and surprise in her tone was unmistakable. "Seth, you have to go inside! You're sick! What are you doing!?"
Seth smiled gently, yet he didn't remove his gaze from his opponent. It seemed Yue was in for a show...

Scary Woods
Original
“You can’t go in there!” Sammael stood firm, hands on hips and legs spread apart, as she feigned a scowl at her tiny brother. He looked back at her and regarded her as if trying to figure out what she was. His large, dark eyes batted foxily in response. She heaved out a heavy sigh and tugged back on his arm. He merely sat where he was and stared curiously ahead at the dark expanse of woods. Sammael became exasperated, “mommy said we can’t go in the woods! It’s bad and scary!”
“Why?” He finally questioned and pointed toward the woods. “I want to go play in the woods! It looks fun, and mommy takes us to the woods all the time.”
Sammael ran around to face him and tried to lift him up. Her brother’s dead weight was heavy for a 2-year-old. The nearly 7-year-old girl could hardly lift his bum off the ground as hard as she tried. With a grunt of defeat, Sammael let him plop down onto the earth and frowned as her brows knitted together thoughtfully.
“You can’t go in there cuz of the monsters, Gabby. If you go in there they’re gonna eat you!”
This just seemed to perplex him more as his head cocked to the side and his eyes glassed over in wonder. “Why?”
“Just because!” Sammael threw her hands into the air. “They’re monsters! They eat juicy little brothers like you all the time!” Suddenly, her expression turned dead serious as she stared deep into her brother's eyes. "Every night, if you listen REALLY closely you can hear'em! They call your name, Gabby. That's why mommy and daddy let you sleep with them. They keep you safe."
Her brother now had his full attention on her. His eyes had grown wide with awe and traces of fear as his thumb retreated into his mouth. Sammael had his attention now. She smiled as the story continued to formulate in her head.
"I heard them when I was a baby, too. They would call Sammmiiee! Sammmiiieee! Once, I even SAW one! It was like a shadow, but it had these long, curled claws an' pointed ears. They said I was a delicious lookin' baby. Mommy and daddy and Uncle Rammie had to fight'em off! They were like wham! Pow! Whap!" Sammael threw her hands out in dramatic fighting gestures to prove her point. Then she leaned closer to her brother and smirked, "an' they come outta those woods, Gabby. Right outta there, especially at night, but since the forest is so shadow-y it always feels like night to them."
Her brother seemed quite frightened at this point. Sammael felt she had done a job-well-done until she noticed that he was not looking at her, but past her. Sammael crossed her arms and raised a brow, "what? What are you looking at, Gabby?"
Her brother pointed and whimpered, "sissy!"
Sammael turned and swore, out of the corner of her eye, she caught the movement of a shadow. Her heart jumped into her throat and she tensed. "T-they're real...? ...Daddy! DADDY!" Taking her brother's hand, Sammael raced for the door while dragging him behind her while screaming for her father; unaware that what'd scared them had been a branch shifting because of the breeze.
