Secrets:

= Is searching for a way to go back and change things. He wants, more than anything, to save Dean and give him the life he deserved.
Habits/Quirks:
>> He has a habit of running his hand through his hair when he's stressed or when it gets in his eyes.
>> He tends to give Dean the "bitch face" rather than respond to some of his brother's more ridiculous jokes/comments.
Overall Personality: Sam Winchester has been described as a great many things and he has fit a large amount of these descriptions at one point or another in his life. Yet, each description does not encompass the whole of him. This is a man whose loyalty to his brother and strength of will let him wrestle control of his body from an angel. Family is everything to him. Without Dean, he is an aimless nothing, but with his brother he is a force to be reckoned with. Not that his brother hasn’t had to deal with his stubbornness or his pride. And he has a lot of both. It doesn’t help that he can be hard-headed as well. Mix that with more stubbornness than an ox and there’s bound to be arguments.
Not that he’s all bad. Sam seems to really understand people and connect with them. He’s never been the type to like stuffing his emotions – although he’s done it on occasion – preferring to get them out on the table and deal with them. Which also translates to: he doesn’t leave things alone. Anything, even if it’s something he should drop, he’ll poke at it until it either willfully opens up or explodes in his face. Sam is very dependable, unless he’s throwing a hissy fit. And boy can he throw fits. Still, he’s very sweet and caring towards those civilians who get caught up in stuff that’s beyond them. Although, he sometimes gets awkward when a girl – an innocent civilian usually – flirts with him. That’s probably just a reflection of old habits, though.
This is a man full of regrets. Although he appears to stride tall, unaffected by the things he does on a daily basis, he is truly a man who’s been beaten down – more than even he realizes. He doesn’t get over things easily, which ties back into poking at things, and has been a living apology ever since he discovered he had demon blood running in his veins. Now, it’s worse. He carries more than the world on his shoulders; he carries every mistake he’s made. He has managed to convince himself that his beloved big brother would be better off without him, that he should have stayed dead. He lives with self-loathing. And that’s the worst of all, because the only thing he can’t escapes is himself.

Overall History: Born May 2, 1983 to John and Mary Winchester, Sam’s destiny had already been written. When he was 6 months old the demon Azazel found his way into Sam’s nursery and fed him blood, changing him into one of the “special children” although no one knew of it at the time. Mary interrupted the yellow eye and paid with her life, John entering the room after hearing her scream and looking up helplessly as his wife burned to death on the ceiling of the room. Sam was placed in his brother Dean’s arms by his father and taken to safety. From that moment on the only home the Winchesters knew was black pavement.. Dean did his best to protect his brother and hide the truth of what their father was out doing all the time but Sam wasn't dumb, eventually he caught on, hating his father for the life he was being forced to lead. He did start hunting with his brother and father but thanks to advice from a teacher he was enlightened to his other options for a life. Leaving Dean and his father behind Sam left for college at Stanford.
While he had created for himself a happy life, getting into Stanford Law School and preparing to propose to the love of his life Jessica, it would appear that Fate had a different idea for the young hunter. Dean showed up on his doorstep saying their father had gone missing and talking Sam into going to the last lead he had to find their father. Sam went along and together the brothers defeated a woman in white. Even though their father was still missing Sam decided to return to school instead of staying with his brother to find their wayward father. Fate, or a yellow eyed demon, stepped in and took Jessica from him in the same manor as his mother had been killed so many years before, prompting him to return to the hunter life with his brother at his side, bent on revenge. While on the road with his brother he began to have precognitive dreams and even displayed telekinetic abilities. The brothers foundd their father eventually but Azazal possessed him and forced Sam into a rather desperate situation. Unwilling to kill his own father Sam unwittingly let the demon escape.
While on the way to the hospital with a hurt Dean, the Impala was blindsided by a truck. While in the hospital John made a deal to save Dean's life, thereby losing his own. The brothers burned his body and Sam expressed how sorry he was that his father died thinking that he hated him. From then on Sam started to have visions of the other “special children” and worked on tracking them down with Dean. They spent several months on the hunt for others like Sam. Eventually, it all led to tragedy as Sam was taken from a isolated diner while Dean wasn't paying attention. Sam found himself in an abandoned town where he, and several other "special children", were required to paly a game of survival. Sam fought to protect all of the other children for naught as they were picked off one by one. Until all that was left were two. He thought he had defeated the only other living child of Azazel when Dean showed up. In his joy upon seeing his brother, he didn't pay attention to his foe. In front of Dean's horrified gaze, Sam was stabbed in the back. The last thing he remembered was Dean screaming his name. The next thing he knew, he was laying on a naked mattress with a healed-over stab wound. He found out later, at the showdown with Azazel that Dean had done the same thing their father had. He had sold his soul for Sam's life. Though they managed to kill Azazel, it was an empty win. Sam vowed that he would save Dean no matter what the cost.
The next year found Sam desperately searching for a way to get Dean out of his contract. The problem was that Dean had no interest in finding a way around it. He spent all the time he wasn’t hunting out partying, which only further exasperated the younger Winchester. Adding to that, Dean took far more risks with his life, worrying Sam. He ended up taking the Colt and summoning a crossroads demon. When she proved a dead end to finding a loophole, Sam killed her. It wasn’t long after that that he met a demon named Ruby, who told Sam that she was one of the demons who didn’t hate him. In fact, she promised him, he had fans among the demonic community, which shocked poor Sam. Gordon Walker resurfaced around this same time and once more attempted to kill Sam. He was forced to kill the man in the end.
Eventually, the duo have another run-in with the Trickster, in which Sam was set up to live Tuesday repeatedly. He watched Dean die in every way imaginable and could not save him. Eventually, the Trickster let Sam move to Wednesday, only to kill Dean again and force the devastated young man to live in a world without his brother. A world he swore would never exist when everything was put to rights again. This experience, only pushed Sam to more extreme measures in his desperate journey to save Dean. Ruby promised him, over and over, that she had a way to save Sam. In reality, she was lying, only using his brother to get closer to him. The contract came up and all Sam could do was stand and watch in horror as his big brother was ripped apart by hell hounds.
After Dean’s death, Sam tried going to other Crossroads demons, but none of them would deal with him. He spiraled out of control, taking little care of himself. He took extreme, unnecessary risks until Ruby managed to track him down and once more began to help him. He made love to her, even considered her something of a lover, although most of his mind was stuck on his revenge. She helped him hunt Lilith, aiding in the improvement of his powers with practice against other demons and by feeding him her blood.
His brother returned from Hell and the two had a rather uneasy reunion. Sam’s first meeting with angels ruined his image of him as goodly creatures when Uriel threatened his death once their mission was over. Castiel and Sam do not entirely see eye to eye, especially after the former informs Dean of the latter’s activities with Ruby. Dean and Sam end up fighting when the elder puts his foot down on the whole thing. When he was told he couldn’t have anything more to do with Ruby and that he had to stop using his powers, Sam pretended to agree. Of course he broke that agreement by going behind his brother’s back. Dean’s death changed Sam in a way that Dean couldn’t understand at the time. He became colder and far more calculating, even going so far as to accept the loss of an innocent life if it meant getting the job done.
The extent of Sam’s addiction to demon blood wasn’t revealed until he ended up saving Dean and Cas from Alistair. The younger Winchester not only used his powers to force information out of the demon, but he killed him as well. The brothers end up being forced to save Castiel’s vessel’s family when they are kidnapped by demons and Cas wasn’t around to do it himself. When Sam couldn’t exorcise a lower level demon that was when Dean realized how dangerous he’d gotten. The point was driven home when Sam, unable to resist, attacked a downed demon and drank it’s blood in front of both Dean and Castiel. The other two contacted Bobby and the three of them together trapped Sam in Bobby’s panic room to detox.
While detoxing, Sam experience several hallucinations including being tortured by Alistair as a fourteen-year-old, a vision of his mother, and a vision of his older brother taunting him and calling him a monster. On orders, Castiel opened the door to the panic room and let Sam escape. He made a beeline for Ruby; after partaking of her blood once more, he learned from her that there are only a few seals left and that Lilith must be the one to break the final seal. Dean eventually caught up with Sam and they fought again. This time, Sam almost killed the brother he was still seeking revenge for. Sam left his brother, despite being told that if he walked out he should never come back. This event left the brothers at odds.
Sam and Ruby head off to confront Lilith with the knowledge that Sam is now strong enough to kill her. He fully believed he was doing the right thing, was content in the knowledge that he would save the world by killing Lilith, not Dean. However, when he killed Lilith, Ruby confessed that she had been working toward the release of Lucifer all along. That she had played him. Dean finally showed up and, together again, the brothers kill the demon that pried them apart with her own knife. They watched in horror as the final seal broke and Lucifer rose from his pit.
Although they are saved and Sam felt great remorse about what he’d done, Dean felt no trust when it came to him. So, the brothers parted ways and Sam returned to living a relatively normal life for some time. Lucifer sought Sam out, in the guise of Jessica, and told him he wished to take Sam because he was his true vessel. Dean, however, was Michael’s vessel. Which mean the two brothers must battle and try to kill each other.
This new returned the brothers to one another again, even though they found it hard to reconnect and rebuild their relationship. Sam tried, but the disconnect is not something he could overcome by himself. This disconnection was felt when the two of them are killed by other hunters and sent to heaven. Dean’s heaven was filled with family and loved ones, their family; whereas Sam’s heaven was filled with every event that happened without his family present. When they return from heaven, Dean threw away the amulet that Sam had given him as a Christmas present many years before. Dean admitted to Sam that he didn’t believe Sam would say no to Lucifer when it came down to it. Sam, however, was absolutely certain that Dean will say no to Michael.
Sam found out that his old college buddy, Brady, was a demon all along; and that he’d always been guided towards his “destiny”, even in his days with Jessica. Brady told Sam that the reason he was so easily manipulated by demons is because of the demon blood in his own veins. The younger Winchester was still struggling with cravings for demon blood, which came back to bite him when he and his brother went after Famine. He ended up attacking and drinking one of the demon henchmen the Horseman had with him, exorcizing all five of the demons around Famine and defeating him. This required him to go back to Bobby’s panic room and once more detox. It was not long afterwards that he confided in Dean about his constant anger and his lack of knowledge why. It was later revealed, by Lucifer, that that was a trait he’d need as his vessel.
The brothers learn that Lucifer could be sent back to Hell by using the rings of the Four Horsemen. Sam came up with the idea of allowing Lucifer to take control of him so he could force the devil back into the pit. After convincing Dean of the idea, he drank enough demon blood to make his body strong enough. Finally, he said yes in Detroit, just as Lucifer had predicted. However, Sam lost control and Lucifer took it, creating natural disasters all over the world. He gathered up all of his faithful followers, the rest of Azazel’s demons, and revealed that they had been watching over Sam all of his life. He told Sam that he was his true family and that was how it was always meant to be.
Because Dean refused to say yes, it is Adam Milligan who Michael used as his vessel. He met up with Lucifer in a field for their final battle, but before they could begin Dean, Bobby and Castiel showed up. They send Michael packing for a bit. In retaliation, Lucifer killed Cas and Bobby. He beat the crap out of Dean and, just as he was preparing for the final blow, his gaze caught on a toy soldier stuck inside the Impala. Memories of the love and the life he had with Dean and his father swarmed and Sam was able to regain control. He opened the gate with the rings and prepared to jump only to have Michael show up again. So, he took Michael with him into the pit. He jumped with the knowledge that Dean would honor the promise he’d made to go and find Lisa Braeden and settled down with her. However, Sam was back, watching Dean in his normal life while remaining unseen in the shadows.
A year later Dean was attacked and poisoned by a Dijinn and Sam appeared, saving him. He told Dean he had been back almost a year and had been hunting alongside the Campbell clan, happy to let Dean live a peaceful life with Lisa and Ben.
Dean’s angry response to the confession that he’d been around for a year drove Sam away. He disappeared in the night, deciding to cut his losses and continue on his own path. In his mind, it wasn’t a big deal that he’d been back ever since his death. He reasoned to himself that his brother no longer wanted him around and that seemed logical after all that had happened. There was no remorse in his departure, most likely because he didn’t have to pretend to feel it for anyone else’s sake. He hopped onto the trail of a vampire coven wherein he met his salvation, although he did not realize it at the time. Theodosia Thompson was tearing the coven apart by the time he showed up. Although seemingly delicate, she made an impression on him, because she did not flinch from the horrific scene she was creating. Nor did she stop to puzzle the morality of her actions.
She did, however, question him at gun point. Once she realized what and, more importantly, who he was, she accepted him. Theo knew about him, too much about him and he ended up demanding to know why. She gave him the truth: that she was a nephilim and, thus, she could tune into Angel Radio. Apparently, there had been a lot of activity since Azazel had killed his girl friend about five years ago. She knew more about him and his brother than he thought she should, but since she wasn’t aggressive about it, he wasn’t inclined to kill her. She was even able to note that he wasn’t acting like the Sam Winchester she’d heard so much about. He didn’t comment, so she let it slide, although she made sure he didn’t step over the moral lines when she could help it.
It didn’t take Cas long to track him down, if only to keep a cautious eye on him and Theo. Both nephilim and angel worked ridiculously hard at ignoring each other. His own relationship with the angel was tenuous at best during those days, although they both made an effort at it. Partly because he thought it best he maintained the caring brother around Castiel. The angel wasn’t able to spend a lot of time with the duo which was understandable, considering the war going on up above. Theo was quite able to keep Sam in line by herself and, logically, he understood why it was better for him to stick around someone like her. Although he was now the perfect hunter, he stuck out like a sore thumb among civilians.
The two had many little fights due to Sam’s uncaring ways, but they worked together like a well-oiled machine. That is, until Isaac. Theo drove them, in her orange 1971 El Camino, all the way to Hell, Michigan for a little R&R, or so she told him. She was, of course, lying to him, but he didn’t care. Isaac, it turned out, was a lot like Bobby, if perhaps a little angrier with the world. Isaac put them up in his house for the night, but Sam noticed that something was off about the older man. He was promised a hunt so, when the other two settled down for the night – or pretended to – he went to the bedroom he’d been given and did some research on Isaac Eagle and his son Ian. He was running through some discrepancies about Ian’s mother when he heard a commotion downstairs.
He was quick to get to his feet and out into the upstairs hall. He pulled Ruby’s knife, which he’d stolen from Dean, out and crept silently down the stairs. In the kitchen he found a possessed Isaac jeering at Theo, who was pinned to the cabinets via the demon’s telekinesis. She was bleeding from a stab wound on her torso and from her head. Sam moved on instinct. He crept up behind the ex-hunter and stabbed him in the back. The older man collapsed and Theo fell to the floor. The Winchester was at her side instantly, applying pressure to her torso and calling for Castiel. Logic told him that he needed to keep the nephilim alive for his own well-being. She, however, shoved him away and crawled over to Isaac. Realizing he was dead, she screamed an angel’s name, the anguish in her voice clear even to Sam.
Castiel did show up, with another angel in tow. Theo, at this point, was hysterical and she kept pointing at Sam and demanding to know what he was. The stranger angel, who absently introduced himself to Sam as Jophiel, was quick to get the young woman back to full health, although he denied her plea to bring her mentor back. Castiel, meanwhile, studied Sam curiously, ignoring the girl until she demanded to know what the hell was going on. The next thing Sam knew, he’d been tied to a chair with someone’s belt stuffed into his mouth and Castiel was elbow deep in his chest. It was like being ripped apart and set on fire (among numerous other things) all at the same time. He screamed, straining against the ropes that bound him.
Finally, Castiel pulled his hand free and turned to Theo, whom was standing behind Jophiel (he had decided to stay just in case the young woman tried to kill the Winchester). The verdict? He was soulless. Theo remained stony-faced, but she left the room. The angels trailed after her and Sam knew they were probably going to discuss him. Somehow, the two angels talked the grief-stricken hunter out of murdering him. So, she made him dig Isaac’s grave instead. Despite what had happened, he didn’t leave her. He felt he needed her, could still use her, despite all that they’d done to each other.
Although she hadn’t forgiven him, Theo sent the angels on their way with her thanks, packed up the El Camino and, with Sam in tow, took off. Their new hunt, she told him decisively, was for his soul. He secretly disagreed with the idea that he needed a soul to function, but he played along. Despite several very heated arguments, and one attempt to run away, Theo tracked down a way to “fix” him, as she liked to put it (reminding him quite a bit of how he perceived Dean would have reacted). He never figured out what she did, but she got a hold of Death and called in an old favor. The being was quick to fulfill this favor, retrieving the soul and forcing it back into an unwilling body while simultaneously setting up a mental wall to protect him from the memories of both the body’s year on earth and the soul’s year in Hell.
Unbeknownst to the now unconscious Winchester, Death had a conversation with the nephilim who agreed that her presence would only endanger him. So, Theo summoned another angel, one named Sariel to watch over him with strict instructions not to let him break the wall. She left him in the angel’s care, so that he would never know of their time. Since all memories of Hell and his body’s time without a soul are blocked, Sam has no idea what’s going on or why Dean’s not with him. So, he plans to track his brother down and get some answers.[/ul]
Dream A Little Dream Of Me, Bloody Mary
I never meant to be so bad to you, one thing I said that I would never do.
Roleplay Sample:
Sam remembered getting invitation, even how he'd been incredibly confused. Honestly, he'd been fairly certain he wasn't going to go until, mere moments after opening the invite, his phone rang. When he answered, a shockingly familiar voice more or less ordered him to attend, threatened him with bodily harm if he killed anyone and, in a frighteningly cheerful voice, had described a mask he should wear. And then he'd been hung up on. He hadn't told Dean , because it was a private matter tied to a time before he found even the Campbells. The voice belonged to a young woman he'd met up with throughout his year as a soulless body.
She had been the only person, other than Dean, that his soulless persona had been able to tolerate for long periods of time. That was possibly due to the fact that, looking back, she had reminded him of Dean. Dean as a girl. And his soulless persona had not only been drawn to her, it had wanted to sleep with her. The idea of sleeping with a female-Dean should have horrified him, but Sam was able to recognize the subtle differences between her and the real Dean. Not that there was a whole lot when it came to emotionally-stuffing-world-carrying-meat-loving-trigger-happy-world-weary heroes like both of them. She was the reason he decided to go, although he wasn't sure why Dean had decided to show up.
He'd dressed in a fine, crisp suit and found a mask fitting the description he'd been given. Most importantly, he'd stolen a rather fancy car, although he wasn't sure if it was so much as to impress his friend as the fact that he really didn't want to be carted around by Dean. He had wandered the ballroom for a little while, but had vacated when he spotted his brother. After very little thought, he'd slipped off into the gardens. He spotted what he thought was Gabriel, oddly enough, heckling a lovely masked young woman. Sam was about to go save the poor girl when someone tapped him on the shoulder.
”Theo! It's been a long time.” He turned to face a petite brunette whose smile was brilliant, although it grew brighter upon sight of his smile.
”That's an unusual response from Mr. Stoic. Re-souled, are we?” At his puzzled look, she tapped the side of her head. ”Nephilim, remember? I pay attention to this sort of stuff. Now, can I hug this Sam or are you going to try to stab me again?” His pained expression made her laugh. ”Don't look so upset. I've had worse receptions.” With that said, she grabbed the lapels of his jacket and dragged him down so she could wrap her arms around him. Although hesitant due to guilt at first, the young man was able to over come it and wrap his arms around her.
For a brief moment, he clung to her. ”I'm so sorry, Theodosia. For Isaac, for you.” Guilt clawed at him, threatened to choke him. When she pushed at him, he released her, fully prepared for anger and rejection.
”You moron. Oh wow, now those are puppy eyes. Anyways, as I was saying...That was not only a long time ago, you actually did the right thing. I talked to him. Isaac. Don't ask me how, but I did. He was grateful. Especially since he gets to spend the rest of him with his true love or something sappy like that. Don't worry, Ian doesn't hold a grudge either. He's done some unsavory things in his time. In fact, he was avoiding Michigan because he was afraid he might have to kill his dad. Hunter families. You know how it is.” She smoothed his suit. ”If you don't drop the puppy eyes, I might have to kick your ass.”
There were secrets in her eyes, Sam saw, but wasn't that the life of every hunter? Even now, he held secrets. Theo's secret, for one, not even Dean knew he'd been meeting up with her while soulless. And Dean didn't know about this meeting. Then again, after his brother's little romance with a girl infected with Angel Radio, he found it highly doubtful the other man would have anything to protest. At leat Theodosia wasn't trying to kill anyone. And he hadn't slept with her in the back of the Impala. He hadn't slept with her at all, and probably never would. Although attracted to her on a primal level, his mind couldn't get over just how much she reminded him of Dean. She was his brother in so many ways, it'd be strange to do something so intimate with her.
”Yes, Miss Thompson. Now, I'm supposing you came for a reason? Or did you just want a dance?” His smile was quick and warm; his gaze slid to the other masked girl. ”First, though. Would you mind terribly much the idea of helping me save a poor victim from the clutches of an evil, perverted man.”
”I would be interested in this saving. You and your damsels, Sam. You're too good for your own good. Go sweep her off her feet, I'll distract him with my wily charms.” Before he could protest, she was off, sweeping right up to the suave man and flirting beautifully through her mask. ”Excuse me, sir. But I was wondering if...well, if I could have a dance? I'm enthralled by your mask and by the mystery of your identity.”
Sam stifled a snicker as he followed his friend. She was laying it on a little thick, but it was okay. His hand wrapped around the other girl's small wrist and pulled her away from the angel. ”I do hope he wasn't a bother. If that's who I think it is, he's just a little overbearing. Why don't we get you inside where there will be more people, thus it'll be easier to avoid him?” He smiled down at the girl, green eyes warm through his mask, although part of his attention stayed with tiny Theo.
