--*I'm not the one who's so far away*-- WHEN I FEEL THE SNAKE BITE ENTER MY VEINS (*Never did I wanna be here again*) Ben walked through the house, a worried expression etched on his preteen face. When he came home from school yesterday, it did not bother him that his mom was not home. He thought that she had gone out or was called into work, so he figured he had the rest of the day as well as the house to himself. So what did he do? He fixed him a snack of pizza rolls, a big glass of soda, and then sat down to do his assigned homework for the weekend. Once he was finished there, he watched some television until it was his bedtime and then went to his room to read his comic books and listen to his mp3 player until he fell asleep.
When the 12 year old woke up that morning, he got up and ventured downstairs to see if his mom was up. What he found had him worried. She wasn’t home, nor did it look like she ever had been home. Something was screaming at him that there was something wrong with this picture. So he had hoped to squelch that feeling by going to check the garage for the car. That did not help as the car was parked right where it should be, and now red flags were being raised in his head. His mom was missing, and he was left alone to fend for himself. He had been left alone before, like when his mom went to the store for food or when her and Dean went out. But this was different, and he knew it. He didn’t have the slightest idea on where his mom was, or when she would be back. If she was coming back.
Only one thing flashed in his mind, and Ben rushed inside to the cordless phone that was located in the kitchen, which of course was near the entrance of the garage. He snatched up the phone, and hurriedly dialed a number he had committed to memory. He leaned against the counter, gripping it in a white knuckling grip, as he listened to the ringing on the other end. No one picked up, but the voicemail. ”Dean it’s Ben. Mom’s missing. I don’t know where she is or how long she has exactly been gone, but I know she isn’t here. The car is still in the garage… I’m really worried.” He said, fear and worry clear in his tone. He hung up the phone and began to pace the house, keeping the extension with him in case he called back.
He was scared, and if anyone knew him saw him at that moment they would know. He only hoped that Dean would call back or show up…

I set a course for winds of fortune But I hear the voices say Carry on my wayward son There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more. ---------------------------- Dean was currently waiting for Jo, he had filled the car with gas and told her to get anything that she thought they would need on their way to Bobby’s he knew that this was a showdown that needed to happen, he didn’t know if Nichole had gone to Bobby’s not he had told her where it was but he had not gone with her because at the end of the day she was an angel and she could protect herself, he just wanted to have the showdown with Sam pretty soon. At the same time he was happy just to be on the road again with Jo, sure it was a strange feeling not having Sam there but Sam and Bobby had kept the secrets, not him no he had been the one that had been left out in the cold, he had been the one that they wanted to give the normal life to apart from the fact that he had lost everything important apart from raising some other guys kid and the woman he was trying to be with after a whirlwind weekend romance.
Of course Dean loved Ben.. and Lisa however it was in two different reasons, with Ben he got the fact that he had a son well almost a son Lisa had never given him proof that Ben was his or wasn’t his but just some days over that year Ben would say or do something that was so Winchester that it was scary, then it would be gone again within a flash like it was nothing. Lisa however Dean thought that he had fell in love with the idea of Lisa, the life that he could have had and the fact that he had someone that he could be normal with. However Dean got the feeling that he could never be normal again, hell had shattered the illusions of him being normal and he had tried for the past three years to be normal and act like nothing was different, the fact was as soon as he went into Hell he was going to be different just like Sam was now, the difference was, Dean could trust himself because he had been pulled out by an angel and it had been something everyone rushed around and told people about, Sam on the other hand had been so hush hush that Dean had almost expected the mob from area 51 to turn up also.
He was surprised when looking at his phone that he had a message from Lisa, he hadn’t spoken to her in a while, he knew that he would have to explain Jo to her but he got the feeling that she would understand even if he didn’t know what was going on with Jo himself. As the message played Dean felt his grip on the phone tighten already he had the map out of the glove compartment and he was planning the easiest way back to Lisa’s now that she had gone missing. When he saw Jo coming back to the car he closed the phone and sighed.
“Something’s come up we aren’t going to Bobby’s” he said “a women that I care for has gone missing our... her son just called her car is on her drive and she hasn’t been home for at least 18 hours, something is up.”
Not waiting for Jo’s response he opened the phone and rang the number and when it was answered he spoke.
“Hey it’s me.” He said “I can’t talk long because I am about to hit the road I will be there as soon as I can Ben I promise I am a couple of hundred miles away right now but you are not to leave the house until I get there, in the hallway there is a box in that box there is a hand gun, don’t ask questions I’ll explain it when I get there, if anything suspicious happens you get the gun and you put a round in anything that moves even if it is next door neighbours cat... I’ll be there soon I promise.” Then Dean looked at Jo.
“We have to move” then he got in the car and started the engine. ---------------------------- Lyrics: Kansas – Carry on my wayward son Credit: Sammy Tag: None

Jo had gone into the gas station against her better judgement. It wasnt really as if they would find anything hunter-esque in a freaking gas station but Dean had been right. They would need provisions and such. So, she'd gone in, got whatever they'd need that didnt involve hunting and got out. Quick, easy and to the point. The entire time, though, she was trying to sort through her own thoughts. It was one thing when she had two or three things going through her head at the same time, but when she had about a million things going through her mind at the same time, like now, she was irritated. All manner of crap was going through her mind; Dean and trying to decipher how she felt about him, Bobby and Sam and how she'd explain to them why she was back, her mom and dad, God, Castiel. Basically everything. The thing that pissed her off though, was that she couldnt sort through all those thoughts, especially right now.
Walking out of the gas station, she'd expected Dean to be anxious to get the whole deal with Sam and Bobby over with so they could get on with their job, but when he told her that this woman had gone missing, she almost paused to think about it. Okay, so Dean has a girl already. You knew he did when you asked him before and he avoided the question. Its not like you can just avoid it. she thought. But when he told her about the kid, she tensed just a little before relaxing. Ugh, she hated men sometimes.
"So what's going on exactly?" she asked, getting into the car and tossing their stuff into the back, "Think it was a demon who took her?" She honestly didnt want to care but she did. The woman was an innocent after all. She'd just ignore the fact that she clearly had a personal relationship with Dean Winchester. It wasnt as if she could just push her way into Deans life while he already had a woman he loved and a kid, for that matter. "You better call Bobby and tell him we'll have to put our meeting on hold. Especially if we're gonna be gone for a while."

--*I'm not the one who's so far away*-- WHEN I FEEL THE SNAKE BITE ENTER MY VEINS (*Never did I wanna be here again*) Ben paced back and forth in the living room, the cordless phone griped in his hands. He would often paused and glare at it, as if he was willing it to ring about thirty minutes later the shrill ringing of the phone in his hands startled him out of his worry. He quickly took a look at the caller ID and recognized the number shown on there. He answered it without hesitation. ”Dean!” He called into the phone as soon as he picked up the call. However before he could give him any other information, he was cut off by some instructions from the man he thought of as a father. ”But I don’t know how to shoot a gun. You never taught me! Ok, fine. Just hurry Dean, please.” She managed to but in before the call was disconnected.
He stood there in the middle of the room, looking worried and scared. He hoped nothing got his mom like he had gotten four years ago. More importantly, he hoped his mom was still alive, and that she would be coming for him when she could. So he of course had no intention of going outside, and letting whatever had taken his mom take him. He would wait for Dean to get there, and then let him take care of everything. A few hundred miles away, that was a few hours at least if he drove 60 miles per hour. But he highly doubted that he would be going that slow, so he might get there sooner than that. Who knew?
Ben stood there in a daze, not really letting anything register until the sound of someone or something jiggled the door knob on the front door. Suddenly remembering what other instructions that Dean had given him, he darted off into the hall to find the box. He found it, and removed said handgun. Just in time to hear a window break in the direction he was just standing at moments before. He stared at the heavy, cold steel in his hand and then looked in the direction the noise came from. Could he actually be confidant in pulling the trigger? Can he actually shoot something, even if Dean told him to? He decided he couldn’t, not while he had other options open to him. Like hiding in the hallway closet…
He sat in the corner huddled with his knees pulled against his chest, and the gun pointed at the door of the closed closet he had holed himself up in. When he heard unfamiliar heavy footsteps walk toward the door, paused and then opened it he knew he was finally out of options for his safety. He closed his eyes and squeezed the trigger. He wasn’t ready for the loudness of the weapon or the forceful kick from the recoil when he fired it. He opened his eyes to see a very large man laying on the floor bleeding from his chest where the bullet hit him. The guy was human, and seemed to be wanting to either rob his home or kidnap him. He was now more than worried and scared, he was downright frighten. The only thing that kept him from going completely hysterical was the handgun that he held in his hands like a shield to keep himself safe from harm.

I set a course for winds of fortune But I hear the voices say Carry on my wayward son There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more. ---------------------------- As soon as Jo was in the car Dean took off toward Lisa’s right now traffic and speed limits didn’t matter to the hunter yet bizarrely it was getting to Ben that he had wanted to do rather than Lisa, he knew that he would have to find Lisa and he didn’t know what was going on, he supposed that she could have gone out on a date and forgotten about Ben, as unlikely as it would seem but there had been days that they had planned stuff to do and had only just gotten back from it when they had to go and pick Ben up from school or he was walking home from school and they had a little longer. Not that Lisa was a bad mom but Dean was just not thinking only demon right now he thought that there might have been a reasonable explanation, she could have gone out yesterday, came home after Ben went to bed and then went for a jog the next morning, anything was possible.
“Lisa is a friend of mine, when Sam was in hell I stayed with her and her son Ben for a while, when I learnt that Sam was back we agreed that I was going to go on the road again, the thing is she wasn’t so happy about that, I haven’t been back since.” Dean told Jo “Ben didn’t say what he think took her just that she was missing we could get there and it be something as normal as she met a guy in a bar and stayed at his place but right now we have a scared twelve year old in possession of a firearm that I told him where it was, not the best idea but I want that kid safe when I get there, hopefully he’ll shoot that little dog that pissed on the impala.”
Dean had made the joke in the hope of calming himself down, he knew that he was stressed right now but he was worried about Ben and he just wanted to get there to make sure that the kid was alright, other than that everything could wait, he knew that it was hard not knowing where a family member was he had done it with practically every family member that he had yet he knew that it wasn’t something that he could take easily. He knew however that the sooner that he got to Ben the easier he could help him and that was the most important thing he trusted no one other than himself to help Ben.
“I’ll ring Bobby when we get there.” He said calmly “I want to get there before I do anything else.” Turning the engine up to AC/DC’s shoot to thrill Dean shot past a state trooper car surprisingly at the speed limit and carried on, he knew that he had to get to Ben soon or he could have been take also. If he was being honest he didn’t think that he would get so attached to Ben so fast but there was a part of him that had wanted Lisa to be wrong and that Ben was his son and no one else’s. Arriving at the house he parked the car on the drive and looked at Jo.
“wait here if I am not the next person you see to come out of the house, or a kid to then you call the cops.” He said calmly getting out of his door and taking a gun out of the glove compartment of the car. As he got closer to the front door he could see the door had been forced open, seeing the gun down in the hall he began to panic. “Ben?!” he called out hoping to find him. ---------------------------- Lyrics: Kansas – Carry on my wayward son Credit: Sammy Tag: None

Jo just barely had the door to the impala shut when Dean took off and she jumped. Putting her seat belt on, she looked at Dean, "Yeah, I kind of figured out who she was a long time ago." she said, though figured Dean wouldnt have registered what she meant in his rush to get to Ben. She honestly didnt know why she was getting all bent out of shape about it. She'd been dead for a few years and Dean had found himself a family. What did she expect? For him to stay completely celebate while she was dead, even if she werent brought back? Fat chance of that..
"Dean, slow--" down. she blinked, realizing that they'd passed the state trooper at the speed limit, "You're going the speed limit. Since when do you ever drive the speed limit?" Jo looked at him. This kid--Ben--must be really important to him.. He's acting weird. I hope the kids okay.. she thought to herself before settling back into the seat a little, looking out her window.
As soon as the AC/DC music started blasting, she closed her eyes, letting her thoughts even out while she tried to sort through all of them. The biggest thought floating around in her head right now was pretty simple to guess. She was in the car with him for crying out loud. As far as she knew, she'd never have a relationship with Dean; though she continued to hope she would. She didnt know what the point of it was anymore--hoping for something that probably wouldnt happen--but she knew better than anyone that hope could turn into reality.
All manners of things went through her mind since she'd been brought back, but she couldnt bring a single one to the front of the line when they pulled up to Ben and Lisa's home. Jo looked around, seeing nothing out of the ordinary, supernatural-being escque in the yard. She did she the broken window though and went to grab her gun, only to be told she wasnt going in.
"Be careful." She said, watching him, "I just started hunting with you. It'd be a disappointment if I had to rush my partner to the hospital." she smiled a little and checked the clip in her gun. When he left, she sighed, "This should be interesting."

--*I'm not the one who's so far away*-- WHEN I FEEL THE SNAKE BITE ENTER MY VEINS (*Never did I wanna be here again*) Ben did not know how long he was holed up in the closet, pointing the gun at the now open door. He just knew that he was in a good place to defend himself, for any other people or things that would come for him. He refused to let his eyes land on the unmoving, and later pale man bleeding on the floor in front of him. He was jerking wildly at every sound he heard, and didn’t know if the guy had a partner that was suppose to come in and finish. So that was the reason he refused to put the gun down, and when the sound of a car door opening and closing he jumped slightly. He gripped the gun more tightly and aimed it in the direction it was coming from.
The sound of the front door squeaking open, had him jump into the air and he instead scooted back further into the closet. Not once did it occur to him that it could have been either a cop or Dean himself. He was of course ready to keep himself right there with the help of the gun that he was told to use if anything moved. Even if he was shaking it like someone with Parkinson’s, he would still gladly use the weapon if it meant that he would stay safe and right where Dean himself could find him. It also did not occur to him that he had just fired a gun, much to Dean’s last statement to him of not ever firing one. He couldn’t afford the irony in that yet.
“Ben?!”
A voice called his name, and he immediately knew who it was and he was happy that he was there. However he didn’t want to get anywhere near the dear body in front of him, so he stayed right where he was. ”Dean?!” He called back fearfully, not knowing if someone was pointing a gun at his superhero. For all he knew that could be the case, plus it was also the fact that he did not want to go anywhere near that body in front of him. He already knew what was out there, kind of, and no telling if the dead guy was one of those things. So he decided that staying put was the best course of action, and letting Dean come to him.

---------------------------- Dean didn’t like this at all, the house was much to quiet obviously this guy didn’t belong in Ben and Lisa’s home but for him to have been shot it meant that Ben had done it, he doubted that Ben would have left out that there was a dead guy in the house when he had been on the phone which meant that it had happened when he had been driving on the way here, taking the gun out of the back of his jeans he was ready for any other attacker because of the fact that he didn’t want to see any harm befall Ben and he wanted to make sure that he was prepared for anyone that turned up in the house if he had to be.
He had thought that the best thing to do would be to check all of the rooms but if there was someone in one of them they would hear him coming and would have that advantage regardless of how good of a hunter he was if he lost the advantage it wouldn’t be something that would benefit him. Therefore he was going to wait and see if anyone else came out. Then there was a noise from the kitchen readying himself he pointed the gun for whoever came out of the kitchen as the guy came out with a gun in one hand and a bag of what Dean was guessing was belongings from the kitchen he opened fire with the gun, hitting the man in the chest and arms, he was dead before he had hit the floor.
When he heard Ben call out for him Dean looked around to try and find the young kid that he cared for,
“Where are you buddy?” he asked. ---------------------------- Lyrics: Kansas – Carry on my wayward son Credit: Sammy Tag: None

Jo was never one to take orders, even from Dean. Stubborn as a mule, her mom had always called her. So, instead of staying in the car where she was safe, she grabbed her knife and hid it in her jacket and then took her gun, jogging up the stairs into the house. She had her gun poised in front of her should anything attack and she looked around carefully, being sure to clear the entire downstairs of the house. That was when she saw the dead guy. She blinked. It had obviously been Ben or Dean who had shot him. She figured it was probably the kid, since the body looked like it had been there for a bit before they arrived. Going upstairs, she cleared that area for any intruders as well, taking the time to make sure they werent in any room, under any bed.
Once she'd cleared the house, she went back downstairs, standing off slightly so Ben couldnt see her and wouldnt get scared. She'd let Dean handle him, since he was familiar with him. She knelt down to examine the body while she waited.

--*I'm not the one who's so far away*-- WHEN I FEEL THE SNAKE BITE ENTER MY VEINS (*Never did I wanna be here again*) Ben was trying to hold back the fearful tears that wanted to threaten to spill, but he was a boy. And boy’s don’t cry. The door creaked open again, and he scooted back further into the shadows of the hall closet where he had taken up position with a loaded gun. The only thing going through his mind was that someone else had just entered the house, and they could be an enemy. He stayed there, silent as he listened as more than one set of footsteps echoed across the place, and then someone firing gunshots right before a body fell heavily to the floor.
Then next thing he saw was a hand reach out into view and touch the dead body in front of him. Dean’s instruction of firing at anything moved rang in his head, and he lifted the gun. He closed his eyes and pulled the trigger more than once, and not even aiming at anything. He hoped he was just scaring who ever it was off, and heard the shots hit the wall across the hall without hitting anything before then. He paused and waited for any signs of retreat, before opening his eyes again.
”Where are you buddy?”
Ben heard Dean call out to him, asking him where he was. He didn’t know if the owner of the hand was still there or not, but from the sound of where the question came from Dean couldn’t be too far from him. He was going to take a chance, and tell him. He coughed slightly as a rancid stench reached his nose, and took a small deep breath. ”Closet.” He answered and scooted all the way into the shadowed corner of the closet, not wanting to let the owner of the hand come for him.

Dean didn’t like this at all, why would two guys try and rob the house at the same time as Lisa going missing that suggested that it cold have been a human case rather than a monster but the fact that he and Ben had killed the two guys between them then there was no chance of getting answers out of the two men that had been in the home, not that it bothered Dean that much because of the fact that it meant that he could focus on finding Lisa and if there was anyone that could do it, it would be Dean. The hunter was perfect at doing it and add in the years of training that he had and he could do practically anything to do with the supernatural.
As Jo checked over the body Dean couldn’t help but think that this wasn’t something that was normal, the fact that there was Lisa going missing and someone trying to rob the house made it look like there was no chance of it being a misunderstanding and if Dean was being honest he thought that it was more expected that there was one thing going on. He knew that it would be something that would be to do with himself if he was being honest no arrogance included, after all who else would they have been after.
“It’s ok Ben your safe,” he said

Jo Harvelle had seen a lot of things in the past, most of which included demon attacks. This whole scene? it didnt even remotely scream "demon!". She sighed and looked over the body. The guy was definitely human. If he'd been a demon, he wouldnt have died off a gunshot wound like this one. She looked over at Dean and gave him a confused look. She didnt know how to interpret this whole deal. Humans kidnap people for a lot of things, but why not take the kid the same time they took Lisa? Demons would have taken them both at the same time. So why leave the kid in a house with a phone and gun?
Unless they were trying to lure Dean here. She stood up, "Dean, this whole thing is way too weird." she said, "It could be someone or something luring you here for a trap. Why else would they just not take Ben and Lisa at the same time? They left him here with a phone and a gun. They could have known he'd call you."
She figured Ben would be scared shitless right now, and she could fully understand that. She was scared of things like htis more than anything at his age. Hunters would come into the Roadhouse and tell her scary stories that she found out were actually real later on and her mother would get pissed at them for scaring the crap outta her. She sighed. They couldnt stay here for long. They didnt know what was going on which made the situation worse than it already was.

--*I'm not the one who's so far away*-- WHEN I FEEL THE SNAKE BITE ENTER MY VEINS (*Never did I wanna be here again*) The 12 year old didn’t want to come out of his hiding place, especially when a dead body wasn’t even ten feet from him. Ben hasn’t been around death like Dean had, so the body was sort of was creeping him out. And the smell that was coming off of it wasn’t helping either, and he soon found himself wanting to vomit. The rancid order was just too nauseating for him, so her attempted to cover his nose and mouth with his tee shirt that he had put on that morning. Needless to say, it did him no good. The smell only seemed to get worse as he stayed there…
The dark hair boy listened to a woman talk to Dean, as she told him that this could have been a trap. Great, that made him feel tons better. He closed his eyes, fearful that he had just signed the fate of the only guy he thought of as a father. He suddenly felt terrible for luring him here, if this was indeed a trap. It was the last thing he wanted to do to the man who he had looked up to since he was eight, and he didn’t know what to do if anything ever happened to him. With his mom missing, Dean was all he had left now.
”It’s ok Ben your safe,”
Dean’s voice cut through his thoughts to him, and Ben opened his eyes. The body was still there, and he was still by himself. There was no way he was going to come out of the closet and get ambushed by someone they didn’t know about waiting for him to emerge. And then there was still that issue of him not wanting to go anywhere near the dead body, so he instead laid the gun next to and looked out the open door of the closet over the dead guy. ”Dean… Help…” He called out softly, not like he was hurt but more like he was still scared.

As Jo spoke Dean silently cursed her, of course he could see that it was a trap but he didn’t want Ben to know that as he was just a kid and Dean didn’t want to make the situation worse than what it already was. He didn’t think that it was something that would benefit anyone because of the fact that Dean didn’t want to have to try and console Ben and make sure that he was ok but at the same time it would mean that they where spending less time on what to do next with Lisa being gone. he knew that Jo was right he just didn’t want to scare Ben.
“They didn’t know that the gun was there unless robbers randomly search closets,” he said “and Lisa didn’t know it was there either it was a good job because she would have moved it she hated having guns in the house, the fact that said gun has kept Ben safe I don’t give a damn about him having a gun right now.” When Ben called out Dean automatically went into panic mode, walking to where the voice came from Dean was glad to see that he wasn’t harmed. “Your safe to come out buddy the house is empty.”

"No one else is in the house aside from the three of us. And as far as I can tell, there's no sulfer so we're not dealing with demons unless they decided to use humans to kidnap a kid. This guys one of our kind." she said, still kneeling beside the body, "And unless they've managed to create invisible demon brands for humans, he doesnt appear to be branded anywhere in sight." she said. She checked the guy for a wallet and identification, "Sam and Bobby would be pretty handy to have around right now."
She did wish Sam and Bobby were there with them. Dean had been in such a huff about her wanting to see them the last few days and she'd actually managed to pay attention enough to secure Sam's cell number. She'd even managed to text him a few times, keeping her phone far from Dean's sight so he wouldnt see or get mad about it. God only knew he would. She set her gun down carefully, away from the body. You never knew when a dead thing was gonna just jump up at you after all. She didnt want it to get to her gun.
